Gluten and Casein Free Diet

My boring blog! My son is starting on the gfcf diet. I want to log all the foods and see if his behavior changes. Anyone who catches me feeding him stuff he shouldn't have or who has advice, feel free to comment.

Gluten-Free Rip Off

Anybody that has cooked gluten-free knows how expensive the ingredients are - especially when you add the health food store mark-ups into the equation.

I finally went to the Indian store nearest to us because I heard rice flour was a bit cheaper there.

Holy Moly. Not only did they have rice flour, they had corn flour, garbanzo bean (chick pea) flour, sorghum (jowar) flour and corn flour!

And the prices, my goodness! The stuff was cheap and in huge bags compared to what I have been buying.

Here are the price differences.

Bob's Red Mill Corn Flour - 1.89 for 1 1/2 lbs.
Indian Store Corn Flour - 1.69 for 2 lbs.

Bob's Red Mill Garbanzo Flour - 2.29 for 1 1/2 lbs.
Indian Store Chick Pea Flour (same as garbanzo) - 4.49 for 4 lbs.

Bob's Red Mill Rice Flour - 1.79 for 1 1/2 lbs.
Indian Store Rice Flour - 2.99 for 4 lbs.

Bob's Red Mill Sorghum Flour - 3.99 for 1 1/2 lbs.
Indian Store Jowar (sorghum) - 2.49 for 4 lbs.

I obtained the Bob's Red Mill prices from their website. I actually pay more than that for their products locally. And they are one of the cheaper sources of gluten free products.

I was blown away at the price difference.

I told my husband I wanted to bow at the feet of the lady behind the counter and kiss her. He said that I practically did. :P
